Canine Hydrotherapy
Beneficial and fantastic fun for your dog!!
In the pool, the dog normally wears a life jacket attached to a pole, this is known as restricted swimming. The pole is used to keep the dog swimming against the hydrotherapist. This resistance helps with muscle build up and also helps to keep the dog from getting too close to the sides of the pool. Dogs that are used to the pool quite often go in with no pole or jacket (free swimming) or the hydrotherapist may be in the water with the dog. There are water jets which can be used to increase the current in the pool which makes the dog swim harder.
I started taking Gabriel to hydrotherapy to help with his stiff hip joints. The results are amazing, he is so much more supple and strong in his hips and his overall fitness has increased considerably. All my dogs swim at least once a week.
Hydrotherapy helps:
- improve fitness
- reduce obesity
- repair and rebuild muscle
- assist in recuperation after surgery
- in allowing older dogs to exercise without impact damage to joints
- structural conditions such as hip dysplasia
- and, its just great fun for your dog
